John Knox
(?-1778):

Born in Sligo, Ireland, in 1741 Knox "purchased a Lieutenancy in the 23rd and accompanied the unfortunate expedition against Louisbourg in 1757." Knox's account of the Campaigns in North America, 1757-1760, has been described as "the most valuable record of those eventful times." Knox, himself, missed out on the 1758 campaign to take Louisbourg for he had drawn duty at Annapolis Royal (he spent two years in Nova Scotia); he was, however, with the troops at Quebec (1759) and at Montreal (1760).

Knox's Historical Journal of the Campaigns in North America was published in England in 1769.
